Purpose: 

The purpose of this e-learning module is to transfer the required knowledge, that will provide the learner with a thorough understanding of the Regulations set out in Title 1, which covers the minimum requirements for seafarers to work on a ship, and Title 2 which covers conditions of employment. 

 

Learning Objectives:

Upon completion of this module, you will be able to: 

  • State the minimum requirements for seafarers to work on a ship.  

  • Summarize the general terms and conditions of employment for seafarers. 

  • Describe the requirements for payment of wages, and accounting. 

  • State “hours of work” and “hours of rest” as defined by the Convention, and the limits on hours of work and rest. 

  • Describe the requirements for entitlement to paid annual leave and factors to be taken into account. 

  • Explain the conditions that the shipowner must comply with regarding the repatriation of seafarers. 

  • Describe the compensation to be paid to seafarers following the sinking of the ship they were employed in.  

  • State the minimum crewing levels required by the Convention.
