Purpose:
The purpose of this e-learning module is to transfer the required knowledge that will provide the learner with a thorough understanding of the Regulations set out in Title 4, covering Health Protection, Medical Care, Welfare and Social Security Protection.
Learning Objectives:
Upon completion of this module, you will be able to:
- State the standard of medical care to be made available to seafarers both onboard and ashore.
- Explain the requirements for the provision of medical services and care onboard.
- State the shipowner’s liability with respect to the financial consequences of sickness, injury or death occurring while a seafarer is serving under an employment agreement.
- Describe the guidelines for managing Occupational Health & Safety aboard ship.
- Describe the social security protection and benefits to be provided to seafarers.
- Describe the minimum requirements for shore based welfare facilities to be provided to seafarers.
